Introduction and Background

Blind But Not Broken is a transformative and faith-driven movement founded in 2022 by Dr. Charles W. Powell II, a blind business consultant, paralegal, Published Scholar, motivational speaker, and advocate. Dr. Powell, who lost his sight due to Retinitis Pigmentosa in 2012, refused to allow blindness to define his destiny. Instead, he channeled his pain into purpose, birthing a movement that speaks to the resilience, dignity, and inherent capabilities of individuals within the blind and visually impaired community.

This movement was born from the real-life challenges and societal stigmas Dr. Powell personally encountered after losing his sight. Rejected by employers and underestimated by society, Dr. Powell recognized the desperate need for a unified voice to combat misconceptions about blindness, and to uplift those whose stories too often go unheard. Thus, Blind But Not Broken was born: not only as a slogan, but as a testament to the enduring strength of the human spirit.

Mission Statement

To empower, educate, and elevate blind and sight impaired individuals by breaking down societal barriers, dismantling stereotypes, and promoting full inclusion through advocacy, education, and lived experience.

Vision

A world where blindness is not viewed as a limitation but as a different way of seeing, living, and thriving. We envision a society that values capability over disability, one that champions accessibility, equity, and respect for all.

Core Values

Resilience: We celebrate the strength it takes to overcome adversity. Empowerment: We equip individuals with tools, knowledge, and confidence to pursue their purpose. Faith: We believe in God’s grace and the power of divine purpose in every life. Inclusion: We promote equal opportunity and full participation in every facet of society. Authenticity: We speak our truths, share our stories, and advocate with sincerity and humility.

Purpose and Objectives

1. Public Awareness & Education: Combat ignorance and misinformation about blindness through storytelling, public speaking, media appearances, and community events. 2. Advocacy: Work alongside policymakers, businesses, and educational institutions to promote accessibility, fair employment practices, and inclusive infrastructure. 3. Community Support: Offer encouragement, mentorship, and resources for individuals newly adjusting to sight loss. 4. Representation: Create platforms for the blind to lead, speak, and be seen as contributors, professionals, leaders, and innovators. 5. Faith and Inspiration: Inspire through testimony, faith-based encouragement, and acknowledgment of God’s grace in our journeys.
